Descriptions of the Shipping Sections

The shipping sections of the eBay Listing Template allow you to select which shipping options you make available to your buyers, Flat Rate or Calculated for example. You can overwrite any field in an eBay Listing Template as you list items through the user interface. Most fields can also be overwritten through Excel.

NOTE:

You can create shipping policies directly in your eBay seller account. The benefit of using eBay's business policies for shipping, returns, and payments is that policy revisions you make in your eBay seller account are automatically updated onto your listings.

To use a shipping policy on the listings you create through Solid Commerce, enter the policy ID number from eBay in the Basic Listing Information section of your eBay Listing Template. If you use a shipping policy, you do not need to populate the shipping sections of your listing template.

For more information about using eBay business policies, see Using eBay's Business Policies Through Solid Commerce (Shipping, Payment, and Return Profiles).

Field Descriptions for the Domestic Shipping Options Section

Field Names
Field Descriptions and Valid Values
Shipping Rate Select Flat Shipping Rate, Calculate Shipping Rate, or Freight from the drop-down menu. If you select Calculate Shipping Rate, you will need to provide Package Information.
Rate Table

You can create a shipping rate table in your eBay seller account. The rate table determines the shipping fees on your listing.

You can use your saved eBay rate table by selecting Default from the Rate Table drop-down. We will submit the shipping methods, discounted shipping profiles, and location exclusions you enter in your Solid Commerce Listing Template. However, we will not control the shipping fees on your listings.

For more information about eBay shipping rate tables, see the eBay's help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-costs.html.

First Offered Mail Service

Select the shipping method you want to offer buyers as their first option.

Selecting generic methods gives you the flexibility to ship using any method you want. You can also choose from all the carrier specific options available on eBay (USPS, FedEx, or UPS options).

If you select Calculate Shipping Rate from the Shipping Rate drop-down, you must select a carrier specific option in this field. eBay can only calculate the fees for specific shipping methods.

Check for free shipping on first offered ship service Check this box to offer free shipping to buyers.
First Offered Service Fees

If you select Calculate Shipping Rate from the Shipping Rate drop-down, or check the Check for free shipping on first offered ship service box, you will not see the service fees fields. Here are the descriptions for each field:

First: Enter the dollar amount you want to charge buyers.

Additional: If a buyer purchases two or more of the same product from a single listing, one item will be billed the shipping fee saved in the First field. All of the additional items will be billed the fee in this Additional field.

EXAMPLE: You enter 4.99 in the First field and 1.99 in the Additional field. A buyer purchases a quantity of two from the listing. Their shipping fee will be: $6.98 ($4.99 for the first item + $1.99 for the additional item).

Surcharge: This field only works with FedEx and UPS shipping methods. Use it to enter an additional amount you want to charge buyers shipping their order to Alaska, Hawaii, or Puerto Rico.

These fields are easy to overwrite through Excel or the user interface as you list items.

Second, Third, or Fourth Offered Mail Service If you want to offer additional shipping options, select the shipping methods from these drop-down menus.
Second, Third, or Fourth Offered Service Fees Enter the dollar amounts you want to charge buyers to ship them their products.
Shipping & Handling Costs This option only appears if you select Calculate Shipping Rate from the Shipping Rate drop-down menu. eBay automatically adds the handling charge you enter to the shipping fee, so buyers only see one shipping fee. Buyers don't see a shipping fee plus an additional handling charge.

Check to apply domestic flat (or calculated) shipping discount profile

You can create discount profiles directly in your eBay seller account. The rules allow you to combine multiple items (or orders) into one package to offer shipping savings to the buyer. The profiles can be created for both flat and calculated shipping.

The item with the highest shipping fee is used as a base. Then eBay either adds (or subtracts) a small fee for each additional item based on the rule.

For more information, see eBay's Help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-discounts.html.

Check to apply domestic promotional shipping rule

Creating a promotional rule in your eBay seller account allows you to offer discounts to buyers when they purchase multiple items or spend more than a certain amount.

For more information, see eBay's Help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-discounts.html.

Domestic - Exclude Ship To Location

Select any types of addresses you don't want to ship to: Alaska/Hawaii, US Protectorates, APO/FPO, and/or PO Box.

NOTE:

You can create Shipping Rules that automatically select the correct shipping method based on the type of address you're shipping to.

EXAMPLE: You can create one rule that prints UPS Ground labels for most domestic orders. You can create a second rule that prints USPS Priority labels for any orders to Alaska, Hawaii, or PO Boxes. For more information about creating rules, see Creating Shipping Rules to Automate Your Shipping.

To provide exclusions through Excel, use the column header ebay exclude ship to locations and enter: Alaska/Hawaii, US Protectorates, APO/FPO, or PO Box into your cells. To exclude multiple locations, separate each location by a semicolon (;). You don't need to add a space after the semicolon.

International Shipping Rate Type

Fifth Offered Mail Service

Please refer to the Domestic Shipping Options chart above for descriptions of these fields. The international and domestic fields function the same way.
First Ship To Location

Select Will ship worldwide or Will ship to selected areas and countries (select to view) from the drop-down.

Many people use the Will ship to selected areas and countries setting to offer specific pricing or shipping options to particular regions.

EXAMPLE: You select a First Offered Mail Service of: UPS Standard To Canada. You will want to select Will ship to selected areas and countries (select to view) in the First Ship to Location drop-down. You will also check Canada in the Select By Region section.

Select By Region If you select a Ship To Location of Will ship to selected areas and countries (select to view), the Select By Region options will appear. Check the boxes next to the regions you want to ship to.
Shipping and Handling Costs This option only appears if you select calculated shipping. eBay automatically adds the handling costs to their shipping fee calculation, so buyers only see one shipping fee, not a shipping fee plus an additional handling charge.
Check to apply international calculated shipping discount profile

Flat shipping and calculated shipping rules allow you to combine multiple items (or orders) into one package to offer shipping savings to buyers. You create the profiles directly in your eBay seller account.

The item with the highest shipping fee is used as a base. Then eBay either adds (or subtracts) a small fee for each additional item based on the rule.

For more information, see eBay's Help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-discounts.html.

Check to apply international promotional shipping rule

Creating a promotional rule in your eBay seller account allows you to offer discounts to buyers when they purchase multiple items or spend more than a certain amount.

For more information, see eBay's Help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/shipping-discounts.html.

Global Shipping

eBay's Global Shipping Program makes shipping orders to international buyers easy. All you need to do is ship your order to an eBay shipping center in the United States. From there, eBay manages the international shipping and customs process.

If you prefer, you can enable this option on an item-by-item basis through Excel or the user interface.

If you enable the Global Shipping option, you will need to provide Package Information.

In order to participate in the Global Shipping Program, you first need to opt in through eBay. For full information, see eBay's Help: http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/shipping-globally.html.

International - Exclude Ship To Location Click on a region to expand a check list with all relevant countries. Check off any countries you don't want to ship to. You can also check the All box to exclude the entire region.

IMPORTANT!

If you select All in Asia, you also need to select All in the Middle East and Southeast Asia in order to meet eBay's requirements. If you only select All in Asia, no Asian countries will be excluded from your listing.

It is no problem to select All in either the Middle East or Southeast Asia on their own. Excluding these Asian sub-regions doesn't require selecting All in any other regions.

Field Descriptions for the Package Information Section (For Calculated Shipping or Global Shipping)

Field Names
Field Descriptions and Valid Values
Package Type We recommend selecting Package/thick envelope from the drop-down menu. It is a versatile package type that works well for most people.
Package Size

The height, length, and width of your packages. Accuracy in this field is generally most important when you are shipping oversized packages. On oversized packages, eBay's shipping calculation will need to reflect the carrier's overage charges.

If your packages are standard sized, you can enter some representative dimensions in your eBay Listing Template.

You can also provide eBay dimensions when you list items through Excel or the user interface if you need to overwrite the values saved in your listing template.

Shipping package is irregular You do not need to check this box, unless you regularly ship liquids, or sell many different products that ship in irregularly shaped packages. If you sell a small percentage of liquid, or irregularly packaged items, you can check this box for those individual items through the user interface.
Shipped Weight Leave these fields blank. You can provide specific eBay shipping weights through Excel or the user interface when you list items. If you do not provide an eBay specific weight, we will submit the value you saved in your product's product weight field to eBay.
