Listing to Walmart (Creating New Listings and Adding Yourself to Existing Listings)

This article will show you how to list to Walmart.

The Walmart listing process is the same whether you are creating a brand new listing or adding yourself to a listing that already exists on walmart.com. In either case, you must provide full listing details.

For listings that already exist on Walmart, there is a chance that they could update the listings with your data. That is why they require full details.

Building Your Excel Template to Create New Listings

To list to Walmart, populate the Excel template attached to the bottom of this article. The same template can be used to list to all categories. Depending on Walmart's requirements for your category, you may need to add a few attributes to the template as new columns.

Once you've customized your upload template, you can save it for future use.

Finding Walmart Templates for Reference

When populating your Solid Commerce template, you need to refer to Walmart's template for your category. By reviewing Walmart's template, you can:

  • See if Walmart requires any attributes specific to your subcategory.
  • Determine if you want to provide any optional details (providing more attributes can increase sales).
  • View definitions and valid value lists for most fields.
  • Find the correct name for your subcategory.
    • Every category template includes several tabs. The subcategory names are used as the names of the tabs.

To download your Walmart Template:

1) Inside Walmart Seller Center, click on Add New Items in the sidebar menu.

2) On the Add New Items page, select your category from the drop-down menu in Step 1.

3) Click on the {Category Name} Template button in Step 2 to download your template.

4) Open your template in Excel.

  • The Definitions tab is a helpful reference.
  • You can also unhide Rows 2 and 3 on your subcategory's tab to view field descriptions and requirements.

Required Fields

IMPORTANT!

Some subcategories require additional fields. Check your subcategory's tab in Walmart's template for attributes with an asterisk (*). You will need to add these attributes to your Solid Commerce template in order to list.

NOTE:

In Solid Commerce, all walmart attr: columns are Product Level fields (found on the Products + Inventory tab of the attached template). All walmart: columns are Marketplace Level fields (found on the Walmart tab).

If the item you want to list already exists in Solid Commerce, you don't need to repopulate any of the fields on the Products + Inventory tab that you have already populated in the past (upc, manufacturer, qty, image file, etc.). You only need to populate the walmart attr: fields.

TIP:

To maximize your sales, we highly recommend reviewing Walmart's support article about search engine optimization, Using SEO Best Practices In Your Item Descriptions. It covers best practices for listing titles, descriptions, and attributes.

Adding Additional Fields and Attributes to Your Template

TIP:

While Walmart doesn't require adding attributes for most subcategories, adding attributes improves the performance of your listings. Walmart recommends searching Walmart.com for items in your category to see which attributes appear in the sidebar filters on the left. These are the most relevant attributes to provide.

Walmart Attributes

To add a Walmart field to your Solid Commerce template:

1) Copy only the name of the Walmart field you want to use.

  • Select the column header's cell and click and drag over the name. Don't copy the (Optional) tag or any asterisks (*).
  • Don't select the entire column that you want to use. Walmart's files use macros that prevent you from editing the column header if you paste the entire column in your Solid Commerce template.

NOTE:

Walmart.com listings are in US Dollars. To make it easier to list, we set the currency to USD on all listings. Don't include any currency columns in your file.

2) Type walmart attr: into a new column on the Products + Inventory tab of your Solid Commerce template. Paste the Walmart field name directly after (no spaces).

3) Populate the data for that field according to the directions from Walmart's template.

4) If you list across multiple Walmart categories, you will need to download each Walmart category template.

  • You can add attributes from multiple categories to your Solid Commerce template. You only need one Solid Commerce template to list to all of your categories.

5) Save your file. You can use it as a template next time you want to list to Walmart.

Custom Attributes

You can create up to three custom attributes.

1) Add the columns walmart attr:Additional Product Attribute-Product Attribute Name (#1) and walmart attr:Additional Product Attribute-Product Attribute Value (#1) to the Products + Inventory tab of your Solid Commerce template.

2) Populate the data for both fields according to the directions from Walmart's template.

3) Save your file. You can use it as a template next time you want to list to Walmart.

Walmart's Free Shipping Default and Shipping Overrides

Walmart automatically adds free "value" shipping to all listings. The free shipping is added regardless of how you set up the global shipping settings inside your Walmart Seller Center account. Free shipping applies to the STREET_48_STATES region (the contiguous 48 states).

Walmart offers the option to override global shipping settings on a listing-by-listing basis. This includes the ability to remove the free shipping option. To override shipping settings on your listing, you will need the following four columns:

Field Name Field Description
walmart attr:Shipping Override-Is Shipping Allowed (#1) Y enables the shipping method. N disables it.
walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Region (#1) Enter the shipping region using one of Walmart's valid values.
walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Method (#1) Enter the shipping method you want to enable or disable. It must be one of Walmart's valid values.
walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Price (#1) If you are enabling a shipping method, enter the shipping fee you want to charge. Enter a number with up to two decimals.

To override more than one region or method, duplicate your columns and replace the (#1) in the column headers with (#2). You can create more overrides by adding columns for (#3) and so on.

To remove the free "value" shipping, populate the columns as follows. Also make sure you offer an alternate shipping method on the listing.

  • walmart attr:Shipping Override-Is Shipping Allowed (#1): N
  • walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Region (#1): STREET_48_STATES
  • walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Method (#1): VALUE
  • walmart attr:Shipping Override-Ship Price (#1): <leave blank>

For more info and examples, please see the Bulk Upload section of the Walmart article, Configuring Item Level Shipping Override.
