Updating the SKU or Product ID (UPC, EAN, ISBN) on Walmart Listings

Walmart doesn't allow you to completely remove an item once it is added to their catalog.

You can "retire" a listing, which unpublishes it. However, Walmart doesn't delete unpublished listings from their system.

If you want to change the SKU or product ID (UPC, EAN, ISBN) associated with a listing, you don't delete it and relist it like you might on other marketplaces. Instead, you update the SKU or product identifier on the existing listing. This article will show you how to perform these updates through Solid Commerce.

What we'll cover:

  1. Updating the SKU on a Walmart Listing
  2. Updating the Product ID on a Walmart Listing

Updating the SKU on a Walmart Listing

Here are the steps for overwriting the SKU on a listing that Walmart already published:

1) Open the Excel template that you use to list new items to Walmart.

2) In the warehouse id column, enter the SKU that is currently associated with the listing.

3) If you are retrieving general product and inventory info, enter the name of your Solid Commerce Warehouse in the warehouse name column.

4) In the list name column, enter the name of your Walmart Market List.

5) Use the Solid Commerce Excel Add-In Tool to retrieve the existing data back into Excel.

6) Add a column to your file with the header walmart attr:SKU Update. Enter a value of Yes for your item.

7) Replace the current warehouse id with your new SKU for Walmart. Also update the product custom sku column.

  • If you retrieved data on two tabs, update the warehouse id and product custom sku columns on both tabs.

8) Upload your file.

9) Our system uses the Warehouse ID to identify the items in your Market List. We won't recognize your new Warehouse ID, so we'll view the item in your upload as new and add it to your Market List.

10) So long as your item is automated, we will automatically submit the listing data for this "new" item to Walmart.

11) Walmart will find your listing based on the existing product ID (UPC, EAN, or ISBN) and replace your current SKU with the new Warehouse ID that you provided us.

12) Once Walmart updates the SKU on the listing and your new item is online in Solid Commerce, you can delete the item with the old Warehouse ID from your Solid Commerce Walmart Market List.

  • Your listing may still be in online status in Solid Commerce. If so, you can use the Remove items in Online Status option.
  • If you want to completely remove the item, you can also use the Delete from inventory and Delete from products options.
