Migrating Amazon Listing Details Into Solid Commerce to Update Live Listings

When we import Amazon listings into Solid Commerce, Amazon only provides basic listing information. We cannot import details beyond the:

  • Price
  • ASIN
  • Quantity (for SKUs that don't exist in Solid Commerce yet)
  • Title (for SKUs that don't exist in Solid Commerce yet)

If you created listings on Amazon and would like to update the listing details through Solid Commerce, you will want to migrate the missing listing information from Amazon into Solid Commerce.

NOTE

We automatically update quantities and prices once your listings import and you turn the automation on. You don't need to migrate your listing data into Solid Commerce in order to activate quantity and price updates. You only need to migrate your listing details if you want to update information beyond quantity and price, for example, titles, descriptions, or images.

This article shows you how to migrate your listing details into Solid Commerce and then update your live listings.

Requesting Access and Downloading Amazon's Category Listing Reports

Amazon has special reports that contain all of the data that you provided when you created your listing. They are called Category Listing Reports. You can upload Amazon's Category Listing Reports directly into Solid Commerce.

The Category Listing Reports aren't normally available in your Seller Central account. You need to request access to them from Amazon.

1) From inside your Seller Central account, open a case with Amazon. You can use the following message:

Dear Amazon support,

Please activate the "Category Listing Reports" for me.

Thank you for your assistance.

2) Wait for Amazon to confirm that they activated the reports for you.

  • In our experience, Amazon usually activates the reports quickly - within one business day.
  • Amazon also set a time limit on how long you can access the reports.

3) Once you have confirmation from Amazon, log into your Seller Central account and go to the Inventory menu -> Inventory Reports.

4) On the Inventory Reports page, select Category Listing Report from the "Select Report Type" drop-down.

5) Keep the "Select Category" drop-down set to All if you would like all of your items exported into one file.

6) Keep the format set to Excel.

7) Click the Request Report button.

8) Wait for the "Report Status" to update to "Ready." Click on the Download link.

9) Save the report so that you can upload it into Solid Commerce.

Uploading an Amazon Category Listing Report Into Solid Commerce

To upload your report:

  • You don't need to modify the columns or data.

3) In Solid Commerce, go to the Products menu -> Inventory Manager.

7) Click UPLOAD.

Viewing Progress, Results, and Downloading Recent Uploads

During the upload, we'll automatically switch you over to the "Recent Uploads" tab in the Upload Center flyout so that you can track the progress of your upload.

The Recent Uploads tab displays your 10 most recent uploads. The uploads displayed are specific to the Market List you have selected.

When uploading a Category Listing Report, you normally shouldn't experience errors for items that you created listings for.

You may receive errors for items that were listed by other sellers. Amazon doesn't provide full data for those listings in the Category Listing Report. That means that fields that are required to list will be empty, which could result in upload errors.

Our upload process reviews each item separately, so your entire upload won't fail just because some of the individual rows fail. The Recent Uploads pane shows you how many items uploaded successfully and how many had errors. In the screen capture below, you can see that 6 products were included in the file. 5 uploaded successful. 1 had an error.

You can download a results file by clicking the HERE link. The results file is your original upload file with two columns added to the right of Amazon's columns:

  • Status - Indicates whether the item in that row uploaded successfully or failed.
  • Message - Displays an error message for the items that we failed to process.

If you want to group the items that failed together, you can sort the file by the "Status" column. You can also hide all of the columns to the left of the Status column if you want see the results next to columns like the item_name, manufacturer, or item_sku for reference.

You can correct the data in the downloaded file. We recommend deleting the "Status" and "Message" columns before uploading your revised file. This isn't a required step, but it allows the columns to populate with the latest results. We don't add a message for items that upload successfully. If you don't delete the "Message" column before uploading again, the errors for items that failed previously will still be visible if the items process successfully this time. You don't need to modify any other columns in the downloaded file. Save it as a CSV (Comma delimited) and upload it.

Updating Your Live Listings

3) Save your populated Amazon template as a CSV (Comma delimited).

4) Upload your CSV into Solid Commerce through the upload center user interface.
